In our previous blog post, we explained what the practice of homeopathy involves. In this blog post, we’ll dig a little deeper to give you an understanding of some of the defining features of homeopathy.
It’s worth noting…
Most homeopaths agree that there is a place for both homeopathic and conventional medicine in holistic healthcare, and that the two approaches can be complementary. For example, a conventional approach may be needed in an emergency situation, but homeopathic medicine can be used as part of the recovery process. With this in mind…
Here are 5 distinguishing factors that make homeopathy unique
1. Root-cause vs. symptomatic treatment
Homeopathy’s general philosophy is to strive to identify and treat the root cause of diseases, with a focus on disease prevention. Homeopathy doesn’t seek to remove or suppress symptoms; its goal is to recognise and remove the underlying cause of these symptoms. This is why a homeopath will work towards understanding the whole patient — including their mind, body and emotional state — before prescribing a remedy.
2. Homeopathic medicine has no adverse side effects
Homeopathic medicines (known as “remedies”) are made from natural sources such as plants and minerals. They are environmentally friendly and cruelty-free. They are given in such small doses that they don’t cause side effects.
3. Holistic approach
Homoeopathy seeks to treat the whole person – mentally, physically and emotionally. A homeopathic doctor examines various aspects of the whole person to activate healing at these levels. They seek to find the “totality of symptoms” by conducting a homeopathic history, asking about physical symptoms and how they vary. They will also enquire about personality generalities, like food likes and dislikes, sleeping patterns, favourite activities, best and worst time of day, etc. That’s why a homeopath will generally spend about an hour with a patient, compared with the 5-15 minutes typically spent with a GP.
4. Personalised medicine and healthcare
In homeopathy, the remedy or treatment program is customised and individualised to the patient, with the intent of removing the underlying cause. Homeopaths examine all symptoms and states to ensure they offer personalised remedies that eliminate symptoms and also address the root cause of disease.
5. Safe for all ages and stages of life
Homeopathy is a gentle, safe, and natural system of healing that works with your body to relieve symptoms, restore, and improve overall health. It is extremely safe to use and has none of the side effects of many traditional medications. When used as directed, homeopathic remedies are completely safe for everyone – including pregnant and nursing women, infants, children, and adults.
